More Like...

The House o’ Germs rather than the House o’ Glamour around here, which explains my lack of blogging! Everyone has been sick including me and a sick Glamour Mommy is not a good thing. I’m crossing my fingers when I say that everyone seems to be on the mend. We have had a rough couple of months, but hopefully the arrival of warmer weather will have us healthy for a good long stretch!

Although there was illness, we enjoyed dying eggs for Easter and having an indoor egg hunt!

We were supposed to go camping last weekend with our friends Robyn and Erin and their families, but had to cancel because of…illness. After reading Robyn’s post, we’re almost glad that we were sick! So glad y’all weathered the storm and made it home safely…except for Erin and Bob’s tent!

Even though we didn’t get to camp, we had S’mores on Saturday night. I had all the fixin’s and was determined to introduce the girls to their first S’mores. The photos say it all…

Finally, I’ve been working on a pretty big project that I plan (hope) to tell you about it in the next few days. I’ve been having a great time with it and I’m excited to share it with y’all!

Thanksgiving 2006 Recap

Our little family of four enjoyed a very nice Thanksgiving at home. Although Mia was with us last Thanksgiving, she slept through the festivities, so this was really our first year sitting around the table together as a family of four. What I am most thankful for...
















Chuck and his mountain o’ taters! We had the conversation…you know the one…
















Chuck: How many potatoes should I peel?
Me: I guess all four. [I don’t buy potatoes frequently. I’m not ashamed to admit that our “regular meal” mashed potatoes come out of a box.]
Chuck: That’s going to make a lot of mashed potatoes. I think I’ll just peel two of them.
Me: Will that be enough?
Chuck: That will be plenty for today and if we want some later this week, we’ll make the other two.
Me: Okay.

Chuck starts peeling.

Chuck: Maybe I’ll peel this third one.
Me: Whatever.

More peeling.

Chuck: I might as well peel this last one too.

We had/have a lot of potatoes! When will we learn?!

We also had a 15 lb. turkey. He’s weighs a lot less now. But, before we carved into Mr. Tom Turkey, I had to do this photo for Robyn…
















In the morning, Emily and I had a conversation about Thanksgiving Day and what it meant to be thankful. At dinner we asked her what she was thankful for and she replied, “Fish and bread!” Daddy talked about being thankful for Emily, Mia and Mommy and for our dog Hattie. Then, he asked her if she was thankful for anything else. “No, just fish and bread!”

I, of course, have so much to be thankful for…my loving and patient husband, my beautiful, smart and funny daughters, our health and the health of our extended family, my friends who fill me up with love and laughter when I need it, the breaking down of my creative block, and my parents who dropped everything in their lives for two months to take care of me and my family. And, from the less serious side of things…my bunion free right foot, my ugly but so very comfortable crocs, Estroven, our auto-brew coffee maker, the warranty on Mia's glasses, Bach's Rescue Remedy, and my fearless snake hunter husband.

We worked up an appetite before dinner by clearing our attic of all things Christmas. We are ready to deck the halls! Fa la la la la la laaaaaa!

I know it's a little early...

But, the radio stations are playing Christmas songs, there are Christmas trees in every store, some houses in the neighborhood have lights up already and the house o' glamour will be decorating for Christmas in two days, so...


Yup, the glamour girls paid a visit to Santa today! It is a huge step that Emily is actually sitting on Santa's lap and not screaming. That drama has been taken over by Mia who was quite happy waving at Santa from a safe distance. As soon as I started to walk toward him, she wrapped her legs around my waist and was not letting go. Add to this the blood curdling screams and it was obvious that she was not going to sit with Santa! So, we tried to get a photo while we also tried to get Emily to talk to Santa. She may be sitting on his lap, but she was not going to talk to him! None of the overpriced photos turned out very well and the photo taking woman was quite snarky with me, so I don't feel bad about not making a purchase. Erin was able to snap the above photo as a cherished memory of Christmas 2006!

Since I had the girls dressed in cute red shirts (that you can't even see), I took a few photos when we got home...

No Tricks Only Treats!

I admit that Halloween has never been one of my favorite holidays. I'm just not into dressing up and I'm not fond of scary things, so it's just one holiday that I used to overlook. Now that I have children it's a whole new ballgame! This is Emily's 3rd Halloween and Mia's 1st. This year we were also joined by our friends Erin, Bob and Mollianne for trick-or-treating fun.

I bought four mega bags of candy at Wal-Mart on Monday...we have 3-7/8 mega bags of candy left plus the haul that the girls brought home. Next year will someone remind me to buy only one bag of candy?!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Easter!

I have finally found a bit of time to post photos of the girls from Easter. They had a blast finding the eggs "hidden" in our backyard on Easter morning. E was so excited and running around the yard that she kept dropping eggs, so she had the opportunity to find more than the dozen that were out there! Once M discovered that there was confetti inside the eggs, she didn’t care about looking for anymore until she successfully emptied the one she currently had in her hand – piece by piece!

After our egg hunt, we took the eggs and a whole lot of confetti inside to open their “baskets,” which were actually adorable bags from Target (from the $1 section – I love a good bargain)! They each received a small toy – E, a four pack of hair clips and M, a small wooden puzzle – as well as a 2 oz carton of colored Gold Fish. Grammy and Pop Pop also left goodies – cloth books for M (good for chewing!) and a Disney sticker book for M (with over 350 stickers!). E was most excited about the Gold Fish and M was still mesmerized by the confetti in the eggs. We had confetti all over the living room and stuck to the bottom of our feet!

In the afternoon I made an Easter turkey, with mashed potatoes (real potatoes, by the way that I mashed myself!) and green beans. We had just had a ham earlier in the week and we were in the mood for turkey…so, it was an Easter turkey for us! Chuck convinced E to eat mashed potatoes and gravy by showing her the fine art of creating a volcano.
Yes, those are aluminum foil bunny ears on that turkey! E thought it was funny, Chuck was about ready to call the funny farm!

BTW, I actually could have posted Sunday or last night, but I have been wrapped up in and obsessed with finishing this video of our photos from China. It has probably taken me 40 hours to create a 33 minute video! Two reasons…1) I was learning a new program (Adobe Premier Elements) and 2) I’m a perfectionist. I finally finished adding the music last night. So after looking at it a few more times, I will hopefully be satisfied and burn it to a DVD this week. Then, it’s on to creating DVDs of the girls’ adoption stories!

Three Girls and a Bunny

Yesterday morning I decided that I needed to get Grammy, Pop Pop and the girls out of the house for a bit. We have been under a sort of house arrest since Chuck had his surgery and we all needed a change of scenary. So, I packed up the crew (minus poor Daddy) and off to the mall we went! E's main mission was to ride the carousel with Pop Pop. Mine was to find a new handbag/diaper bag for Spring/Summer (which are one in the same here in TX!). While we were eating lunch, I realized that the Easter Bunny was probably there taking photos with children all dolled up in their Easter best. The girls were not in their Easter best, but I thought that we would take a stroll down and see what the line looked like. There were only three other families in line, so we decided to give it a shot. E has never been very good about taking photos with any type of character (not even Pooh at WDW) and M screamed at Christmas when Mommy held her on Santa's lap. E talked a good game the whole time that we were standing in line but as soon as it was her turn to sit with the furry guy, she wanted no part of it. We decided that Mommy would sit next to the bunny holding M and she could stand beside the bunny. It was a challenge to even get her to stand between me and the bunny. We finally got everyone in place, letting M hold onto the brush and E with a fake smile plastered on her face and the girl snapped the picture. We only bought two 3 x 5 prints for the girl's scrapbooks and we'll try again at Christmas!

Oh! And, I did finally succeed in finding a new bag! :-)
